FAMILY EDUCATION PROGRAM INFORMATION

Experience shows that addiction affects those who are closest to the addict – and especially the family members. As a result, Harmony places great emphasis on helping those affected by the disease of addiction. We provide a structured and intensive educational experience on campus that includes:

  • Educational lectures
  • Effective communication skills and tools
  • Introduction to Al-Anon
  • Individual and group feedback sessions to reinforce the learning experience.

During the Harmony Family Education Program, family members and/or concerned others will come to understand that chemical dependency is a disease, that it is not the fault of the family, and that the addicted individual must be responsible for his/her own recovery. Participants in the Education Program will also learn the skills of: a) detachment with love, b) loving confrontation when needed, and c) how to be supportive without being enabling. They will be encouraged to use their own support system in appropriate Twelve Step groups.

One designated family member or concerned other may attend the Harmony Family Education Program at no cost. The weekend experience is scheduled toward the end of the primary student's treatment. For each additional person attending, the rate is $400 for the program. This educational program is also available to individuals (at the $400 rate) who do not have a participant in the primary care program.

The Family Education Program begins between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. on Thursday and ends at 2:00 p.m. Sunday. You have a full schedule. Beginning and ending on time is important. Unless previous arrangements are made you are expected to participate in the program from beginning to end.
